"I hope there's an article..." Oh Seung-hwan's FA contract, which Kang Min-ho is also looking forward to
"I hope there's an article about it. It's not coming out".
Samsung Lions catcher Kang Min-ho is looking forward to renewing his contract with "final manager" Oh Seung-hwan.
After graduating from Gyeonggi High School and Dankook University, Oh joined Samsung in 2005 and started with 100 saves in the minimum game and the shortest season in his third year since joining the club in 2007, and broke the minimum game and youngest record in both 2009 and 2011, completing 150 saves and 200 saves, respectively. Notably, his 200 saves in 334 games was a new world record in the minimum game.
In addition, Oh Seung-hwan achieved 250, 300, 350, and 400 saves for the first time in the KBO League, creating a milestone that no one can meet in the save category. From 2014 to 2019, he accumulated saves at a tremendous pace, even though he had been away from the KBO League for six years due to overseas expansion. In June last year, he also made a record of 500 saves combined between Korea, the U.S., and Japan.
Oh's record is attributed to his consistent accumulation of saves that he has won six titles in the category, the most ever. Oh not only set the record of 40 saves in the KBO League in 2021, but he also made more than 20 saves nine times.
Rumors of his retirement were circulating that he was disappointed by his below-expected appearance last year. Oh was not the kind of player who would collapse like this. After finishing the first half with two wins, three losses, 10 saves and two holds (4.80 ERA), Oh regained stability in the second half by garnering two wins, two losses, 20 saves and two holds (2.20 ERA), and maintained his team's victory one by one.
Oh Seung-hwan achieved his first 400th career save in the KBO with one ⅓ scoreless inning in the final home game against SSG on October 14 last year.
Oh Seung-hwan, who became an FA after the end of last season, is continuing negotiations with his original team, Samsung. Samsung, which acquired Lim Chang-min after Kim Jae-yoon in the FA market, will build a 691 save trio if it concludes the contract with Oh.
Appearing on KBSN sports commentator Kim Tae-kyun's YouTube channel "Kim Tae-kyun [TK52]," Kang said, "(Seunghwan) can add to his career. I heard his performance was very poor last year, and he achieved 30 saves." Kang gave a high evaluation to Oh's thorough self-management. "He is very good at taking care of himself. He works out a lot and he is naturally a big fan of sports. That's why his skills cannot deteriorate." 마카오토토
He added, "When I catch pitchers, I feel that their ball power weakens when they get older, but Seung-hwan is still there."
Commentator Kim Tae-kyun also said, "He threw balls in his mid to late 140s at that age, and even if he failed last year, he achieved 30 saves. Judging from his physical conditions, he will likely continue as a player until the age of 50. He is also very good at managing players," in expressing confidence in Oh's long run.
